Sunshine, warm weather, freshness, vitality, health, skin.
Summer weather makes you want to look after your skin more carefully, especially your face and neck as it becomes exposed to the sun and heat – which can damage and age your skin, causing lines and wrinkles. Whilst this is part of the natural ageing process it can also be exacerbated by sun damage; over exposure for long periods of time to the sun and too much sunbathing, all easily done in these summer months.
When you look in the mirror and see your first facial wrinkles, you are recognising the first visible signs of the ageing process. Facial wrinkles and creases begin to appear as the underlying collagen and elastin fibres begin to break down and wear out.
It’s important to stay hydrated with plenty of water, and to use a high factor sun screen. A healthy balanced diet, low in saturated fat will also help keep your skin younger looking for longer.
However, you may have thought about giving nature a helping hand? If you are worried about the effects on your skin, and want to turn back the clock, beauty treatments such as Botox or fillers can help you feel like you’ve turned back the clock.
Dr Bita Farzad, co-owner of College Street Dental Centre is a qualified dentist and trained in Facial Aesthetics.
Initial consultations will be carried out by Dr Farzad who will discuss and agree with you exactly what treatment is required. As every face is unique, we cannot and will not treat you without this consultation, giving you peace of mind that what is agreed is the right course of treatment for you.
Wrinkle reducing injections, Botox, are usually ideal for frown line reduction, horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet, whilst Dermal Fillers are often used for treatment of Nose to Mouth lines, lines across the top lip, mild scarring, thin lips and much more.
Results are immediate with Fillers and as soon as 2-4 days with the wrinkle reducing injections. The effects can last anything from 3-12 months. Periodic re-treatments are needed to achieve long lasting results, and we would recommend every 3-6 months.
Clinical studies do indicate however that the duration of the treatment benefits is increased over time so that you should require fewer injections in the future.
