Introduce a toothbrush as soon as your child’s first tooth comes through and brush their teeth twice a day. You may find at first they chew on it - that’s fine.
Set a good example; take your child with you to your check-up. This helps them gain confidence in regularly attending the dentist.
Try to ensure your child has a healthy well-balanced diet. This means restricting high sugar foods and drinks. Both sugar & sugar free fizzy drinks often contain high acids which can harm their teeth. If in doubt opt for milk or water. If you do choose fruit juices, try to limit them to meal times only.
Creating a fun scenario e.g. singing a song or a hand puppet while brushing may help encourage your child. You could even make a dentists face mask with toilet paper!
