The increasing popularity of Orthodontic Braces

Ever thought about having braces as an adult?

Wished you’d had your teeth straightened as a child and not sure whether its too late to do something about it?

Thinking in investing in braces for your children?

If you are over the age of 30, you probably remember the days when wearing braces were big clunky metal contraptions and quite unsightly.  Technology has improved both the aesthetic look and effectiveness of braces over recent years

As such, the stigma surrounding the wearing of braces seems to be no longer around, and infact has actually become quite fashionable.

Some famous people that you might not realise wear braces include; Adults –Tom Cruise, Nicholas Cage and Gwen Stefani.  Teens – Dakota Fanning, one of the stars of the popular ‘Twilight’ film series and, of course, probably one of the most recent and famous stars to make the wearing of Braces practically a fashion accessory –Niall from OneDirection!

So think again!

Braces are in High Demand.

According to research, nearly 1 Million people in the UK started Orthodontic treatment last year and more adults than ever before want treatment.

Around 1 in 3 British children have crooked teeth and need some degree of Orthodontic treatment to straighten them.  Braces are usually more successful in children, and four out of five orthodontic patients are children.

There is however, a sharp increase in recent years of adults wanting treatment, having missed out in childhood.  Adults who want orthodontic braces to fix major orthodontic problems or minor cosmetic problems often do so to increase their own self-confidence, or even to improve their professional careers.

The advantage of private Orthodontic treatment for both children and adults, is that you have a wider choice of braces, including clear or invisible ones.   Options include:

  • Metal Braces:     Nowadays metal braces are lighter, more comfortable to wear and can give quicker results.

  • Clear, tooth coloured brackets:  Aesthetic braces are  discreet  and virtually invisible.  This is a good option to consider if you are concerned about how you will look with braces.

  • Damon System: The Damon System is based on a unique treatment philosophy that goes beyond straight teeth. Many people see a noticeable change not just in their teeth, but in the whole face, producing a fuller, wider smile, and better facial balance. Patients of all ages can benefit from the Damon System and achieve stunning results.

  • Invisalign: They are tough, clear plastic aligners that are used to straighten teeth.  Due to be being barely visible, no one need to know you are straightening your teeth.   Most people can be treated within  two years.

All of these treatments are available at College Street Dental Centre, Petersfield, through our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Shabnam Ganji.
